Nature Made® Magnesium Citrate is 100% magnesium citrate, a highly absorbable form of magnesium, to help meet daily needs for this essential nutrient. Information from The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) shows that 55% of the US population has inadequate dietary intake of magnesium.1 Magnesium participates in more than 300 reactions in the body and is critical to many bodily functions such as helping to support nerve, heart, and muscle function, healthy bones and teeth, and assisting with converting carbohydrates, protein, and fat into cellular energy.2,3†

Citrate forms of various minerals are common in supplements to help meet various individual needs or preferences. Research studies show that citrate forms of minerals are more highly absorbable than other common forms.4-6 Citrate mineral salts are highly soluble and less dependent on stomach acid for absorption thus it may be gentle on the stomach.6

This form may be important for individuals with decreased stomach acid production including older individuals, and/or those taking certain medications (i.e. acid-suppressing medications).

Individuals with certain health concerns or with decreased ability to absorb food and nutrients may need extra magnesium. These individuals may include people with digestive or kidney problems, alcoholism or poorly controlled diabetes.

Older adults and individuals taking certain diuretics, antibiotics, and acid-suppressing medications may also need extra magnesium. It is important to talk to your preferred healthcare professional about your magnesium needs and proper supplementation.

Green vegetables such as spinach are good sources of magnesium because the center of the chlorophyll molecule (which gives green vegetables their color) contains magnesium. Some legumes (beans and peas), nuts and seeds, and whole grains are also good sources of magnesium.
